Cyndy was born in Avery County, North Carolina to the late Carlie and Margie Alice Henson Hartley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Jessie Hartley, L.D. Hartley, Wayne Hartley and Dewey Hartley; and two sisters, Diane McKinney and Maxine Whaley.
Cyndy was a very kind and loving wife, sister and friend. She was a homemaker and was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church. Cyndy loved everyone she met, her immediate family, her extended family and her many friends. She also enjoyed yard sales and was an avid reader.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving and devoted husband, Wendell Phillips, of the home; her brothers, Jerry Hicks and wife Delores, Basil Hartley, Carroll Hartley and wife Kathy, Dennis Hartley and wife Judy, Gene Hartley and wife Lisha and R.L. Hartley and wife Paulette; her sisters, Julie Walsh and husband Earl, Linda Vines and husband Arnold, Lucille Gardner, and Hazel Clawson; a special sister-in-law, Brenda Hartley; her special friends, Judy Vines and Sudie Torres, both of Elizabethton; her special niece, Alice Whaley, of Butler; her aunts and uncles, Texie Washburn, Frances VanLandingham and John Henson. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Cynthia “Cyndy” Hartley Phillips will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Nick Bradshaw, officiating. Music will be provided by her special cousin, Jennifer Gillenwater and Joel Crisp. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service Wednesday.
The graveside service will follow in the Stone Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in the Poga Community of Butler. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. .
The family would like to especially thank Barbara Matheson, Judy Vines and Sudie Torres for their love and support during Cyndy’ s illness.
