Wayne A. Ray, born November 20, 1942, to Gordon and Pearl (O'Riley) Ray, passed away November 22, 2017, at Mountain View Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada, where he had lived for the past 20 years.

He leaves behind his ex-wife, Peggy (Shafer) Ray; one daughter, Marissa (Bill) Snider; and two grandsons he loved dearly, Logan and Lucas. He was their Poppy. Survivors include three brothers, Larry (Janet), Lester (Sandy) and Gary (Christy) Ray, and a sister, Bessie.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gordon Jr. (Buddy), Lewis E. (Nick) and Harold Gene Ray.

Wayne loved to sing and cook. He was a wonder in the kitchen or on the BBQ grill. He always had a joke or two to tell and he loved his family.

He was a Vietnam veteran and served his country in the U.S. Army for six years. After he was discharged, he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Chicago and St. Louis, then the Union Pacific in Little Rock, Houston and Omaha for 23 years. He then started his own trucking company, working out of Omaha and the Las Vegas until retirement.

He was cremated. His ashes will be laid to rest at noon Wednesday, May 23, at the Danville National Cemetery, 1900 E. Main St., Danville.
