POAGE, GEORGE GILLILAND, son of James and Mary (Woods) Poage, was born In Ripley, O., 1809, June 18. Graduated, Ripley College, 1831. Ordained, by Chillicothe Presbytery, Bainbridge, 0hio, 1835, October ; and acting pastor there, 1833-6 ; Lima and out stations, 1837-9; Ridge and out stations, 1839--49 ; Pleasant Hill, 1849-55; Wittenburg, Iowa, 1855-65; and of the newly organized Congregational church there, 1865-68; without charge, 1868-70; acting pastor, Logan, 1870-78; without charge, Hastings, Neb., 1878-87; Otis, Col., 1887-90; Neligh, 1890-92 ; Norfolk; after. George married Jane Riggs on Nov. 7th 1833. Jane Riggs was a sister to Stephen R. Riggs.(Memorial # 48384864 ) and daughter of Stephen and Anna (Baird) Riggs. Jane died following a very severe snowstorm on March 1st, 1888 while the family was living with their daughter and her family in Otis, Colorado. Five children, deceased. Died of old age, 1896, Jan. 15, aged 86 years and 6 months.
