Douglas R. Pierce Douglas Roy Pierce, age 76, passed away on May 16, 2018. Douglas was born on Feb 28, 1942, or at least that's the official date on the first birth certificate he received at the age of 70. Born to Edna and Clifford Pierce, in Bartlett, Iowa, Doug grew up in the hills of Green Hollow and Pacific Junction, Iowa, where he had many escapades with his rambunctious brothers and sisters. In 1959, Doug joined the Navy serving in Vietnam, deployed on the USS Saratoga CV-60 and enjoyed many tours including seeing the fountains of Italy. He was stationed on multiple naval bases and quickly caught the love of travel which he shared with his family. He always said the best choice he made was marrying Stephanie (Schmitt) Pierce. Together they raised their family, explored the roads of the United States, and enjoyed playing each other in Acey-Deucey. He shared his love of reading, bad jokes and belief in getting an education with all those around him. He loved to volunteer with West End Optimist Club and CBYSA. After retiring from the Navy, Douglas also retired from DFAS civil service. He fought hard against lymphoma, but in the end was ready to join many relatives, but especially his beloved brothers, Dean and Dale, with whom he promised to join in more adventures. Survived by wife, Stephanie Pierce; children, Cynthia Levi, Cathy Pierce, Beth Pierce, Andrew (Rona) Pierce, Ken Pierce, Angie (Chris) Sifuentes, Wayne (Mary) Pierce, Jenn Pierce, Amanda (Anthony) Fasano and Francisco (Phaedra) Pierce; grandchildren, Matthew and Patrick Boian, Tyson Penri, Alex Floyd, Lizeth (Tanner) Armenta, Katie, Jon and Ciera Pierce, Andrew Wood, Helena Sifuentes, Kira and Runi Pierce, Lucie and (baby boy) Fasano, Landon, Alexa and Isander Castelan; siblings, Delores Messenger, Bonnie Casteel, Dolly Foreman and Robert Pierce; and many others that called him Uncle Doug. Doug asked that no funeral be held, but that family and friends celebrate his life with a potluck on Friday, May 18th, at 10 a.m. Meet us under the pavilion at Big Lake Park, in Council Bluffs. Bring a side dish to share and your own drinks. Please RSVP on Facebook event.ierce
