Julia Anita Miles passed away on April 13, 2011, at her home in White Salmon, Wash. Nita was born on March 27, 1932, in Lynn County, Texas, to R.A. and Iva Porter, and was the youngest of five siblings.
Her family moved to Odell when she was 11 years old, where she attended school and made many life-long friends. At age 16, she met her future husband, Ward, to whom she was married for 62 years.
Nita worked as a cook at the Hood River Elks Club and tended bar at the Hood River American Legion. Along with spending time with her family, she loved gardening, traveling and singing with the Odell Sextets and Sweet Adelines.
Nita is survived by her loving husband, Ward; a sister, Joyce Jones, of Tacoma, Wash.; son Larry, of Lyle, Wash.; and daughter Becky and granddaughters Gracen and Collette Bookmyer, of White Salmon.
She was preceded in death by her brother, James Olen Porter, of Odell; two sisters, Donny Tieman, of Gold Hill, and Veda White, of Wasilla, Alaska; and two daughters, Karen and Kay Miles.
