OKLAHOMA WOMAN DIES AFTER BEING MAULED BY PACK OF DACHSHUND DOGS

MARIAH HAAS May 17, 2018 12:29 AM

A woman in Oklahoma died after she was mauled by dachshund mixes allegedly belonging to a neighbor.

On Thursday, 52-year-old Tracy Garcia was attacked by a pack of seven dogs — all weighing less than 40 pounds and shorter than knee-length — near her home on Banyon Road in Ardmore, Oklahoma, reports KXII News 12.

“From what it appeared, about seven dogs had attacked her,” Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant told Oklahoma News Four, adding that when authorities arrived on the scene, one of the dogs charged at them, and they ultimately had to shoot the canine.

“Unfortunately, yes, we had to shoot one dog,” Bryant told the outlet. “It did charge our deputies and to protect our deputies, as well as the medical personnel, we did have to put down a dog.”

The remaining six dogs were euthanized at their owner’s request, according to KXII News 12.

According to the euthanasia technician, Amanda Dinwiddie, all of the dogs were standard dachshund – also known as sausage or weiner dogs – mixes, with six of the canines being a mix of dachshund and terrier, while the other was believed to be a border collie mix.

“A predominant breed in these dogs is definitely standard dachshund,” Dinwiddie told KXII-12. “They have really noticeable characteristics like their knobby legs, knees, very short legged dogs and their coats.”

Dinwiddie added that the dogs — three of which were females and the other four males — “ranged from probably a year to about three years” old.

OKLAHOMA WOMAN KILLED BY PACK OF MIXED dashshunds
POSTED 10:23 AM, MAY 17, 2018, BY TRIBUNE MEDIA WIRE

ARDMORE, Okla. – Police in Ardmore, Oklahoma are investigating after a woman was mauled to death by a pack of mixed dachshunds.

Tracy Garcia, 52, was near her home on May 7th when a pack of seven dogs attacked her, KXII-TV reports. She later died at the hospital.

As first responders on the scene tried to help the woman, one of the dogs turned on them.

“Unfortunately, yes. We had to shoot one dog,” Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant told KFOR. “It did charge our deputies and to protect our deputies, as well as the medical personnel, we did have to put down a dog.”

The dogs were all dachshund mixes, according to Ardmore Animal Shelter’s euthanasia technician Amanda Dinwiddie. Six of the dogs are believed to be standard dachshund and terrier mixes, and one of the dogs was a standard dachshund border collie mix. The dogs ranged in age from 1 to 3 years old.

Dinwiddie told KXII-TV the dogs were infested with fleas and ticks but didn’t appear to have any other health issues.

Neighbors say dogs running loose in the area are a common occurrence. Bryant told KFOR that in the county area, there is no leash law or a rule on how many dogs a person can have.

As far as charges go, Bryant said the investigation is ongoing and the district attorney has been contacted.

OKLAHOMA WOMAN MAULED TO DEATH BY PACK OF DACHSHUNDS

By Kevin Tampone [email protected],

A pack of dogs made up of mostly dachshund mixes attacked and killed an Oklahoma woman Thursday night near the Texas border.

Tracy Garcia, 52, died in the attack. The dogs belonged to her neighbor, according to KXII in Oklahoma.

The incident is still under investigation. The district attorney will review the case for possible charges, KXII said.

One of the animals charged deputies responding to the incident and was shot and killed. The others were sent to a shelter and later euthanized at the request of their owner, according to KTEN in Oklahoma.

Six of the seven dogs involved are believed to be standard dachshund and terrier mixes. The other is believed to be a border collie mix, according to KXII in Oklahoma.

The incident took place near Adrmore, Oklahoma, about 30 miles north of the Texas border.

None of the dogs weighed more than 40 pounds or were taller than knee height, KXII said.

The animals were infested with fleas and ticks, but didn't have any other visible health issues. It appears they were living out in the woods, said Amanda Dinwiddie, euthanasia technician at the Ardmore Animal Shelter, according to KXII.

Six of the dogs were about a year old, with the other possibly being the mother of the group, according to The Daily Ardmoreite in Oklahoma. The older dog was about 3.

"This is a bad situation, a very unfortunate situation," Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant said, according to KTEN. "This is just a bad deal all the way around."

The animals won't be tested for rabies.

"If there was any possible issue of them biting someone else, then it would've been (done), but the dogs are deceased as well as the victim, so there's just no reason to go and spend thousands and thousands of dollars," Dinwiddie, the euthanasia technician, said, according to KXII.
