HERRIN — Tom Bond, 78, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2018, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.

Tom was born Jan. 26, 1940, in Herrin, to John and Eva (Brown) Bond.

Tom was retired, having been employed by Maytag and Allen Industries in Herrin for many years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country honorably from 1963 to 1965.

Tom was a 1958 graduate of Herrin High School.

He was of the Christian faith.

He was a member of American Legion Post 645.

He enjoyed woodworking. He also enjoyed telling a good story.

Survivors include his significant other, Janit Lindsey of Carterville; three children, Tracy (Tad) Thompson of Herrin, Terri (Rev. Doug “Homer”) Hughes of Bloomington, Indiana, Toni (Doug) Painter of Canton; three stepchildren, Rick Martin of Belleville, Chessity Bryant and Carrie Lindsey of Marion; seven grandchildren, Zachary (Stormie) Frost, Dylan Frost, Devin Lewis, Tabatha Thompson, Kaleb Reveal, Taylor Thompson, Daniel Hughes.; three stepgrandchildren, Kayla McRoy, Michelle Dunning and Courtney Adamson; one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Frost with two more on the way. Numerous great-stepgrandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Bond; son-in-law, Kevin Reveal; and stepdaughter, Sheila Emery.

Private family services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday May 19, in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, with his son-in-law, the Rev. Doug Hughes officiating.

Concluding the graveside service, a reception in his honor will be at the Herrin American Legion at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19 and everyone is welcome to attend.
