Married to Eddie P. Hawkins 1957. That union produced Denise and Michelle Hawkins.

Delores aka "Sis" attended and graduated from Carver High School in Baltimore, MD with honors in Business Administration.

She worked and retired from Exxon in 1982. After retiring from Exxon and until her demise, she owned and operated Dee's Halfway House - her own assisted living facility for over 300 people. Her patients and professional counseling was her passion. She visited the White House with Barbara and George Bush, Sr. during his term.

She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed their presence on a regular basis.

She leaves to celebrate her life: two daughters, Denise and Michelle Hawkins and Damon Hawkins, her stepson Gary Hawkins. Grandchildren Keenan and Jahmal Thomas; they call her "Ama". Courtland and Congo, and Sharefa Kuria; one son-in-law Michael Gitagia; two sisters Ella Williams and Annie Williams; one sister-in-law, Bessie Madden. Seven great-grandchildren, Kiaria, Little Keenan, Issiah, Chelsea, Zoe, Abigail, Courteland's daughter and Kandence Gross great-great grandchild. A host of niece and nephews and friends.

She will be deeply missed!

Tribute from your loving daughter Michelle:

Ma, I loved you as a mother and will miss you. Truly, I can say I did my very best, and I let God do the rest. You worked hard at two jobs in the 60's and 70's to make sure we had the best. Best clothes, shoes, tap dance, ballet dancing, roller skated with us, Girl Scout Camp, Pullman train trips to Georgia every summer.

Best classy, jazzy sophisticated, smart, kind, loving mother a daughter could have had.

Thanks "Ma".
