Virginia Tech shooting victim. He was a sophomore English major who was gunned down in French class. Alameddine was a graduate of Austin Preparatory School in Reading, Mass.

Alameddine, 20, of Saugus , Mass. , was a sophomore who had just declared English as his major.

He was "Rossmo" to his friends, a kid with a subversive sense of humor and an intellect that produced a memorable take on everything from iPods to "The Big Lebowski."

Friends created a memorial page on Facebook.com that described Alameddine as "an intelligent, funny, easygoing guy."

"You're such an amazing kid, Ross," wrote Zach Allen, who along with Alameddine attended Austin Preparatory School in Reading, Mass. "You always made me smile, and you always knew the right thing to do or say to cheer anyone up."

Ross A. Alameddine of Saugus, formerly of Melrose, 20 years old, was tragically taken too soon on April 16, 2007. A sophomore at Virginia Tech, Ross had just declared a major in English and minors in both French and Business, fields that reflected his creativity and his computer knowledge. He was the beloved son of Dr. Abdallah Alameddine and Lynnette (DeCoste) Alameddine. Loving brother of Yvonne Alameddine. Cherished grandson of Rita DeCoste of Melrose. Ross is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ross was a graduate of Saint Mary's Grammar School of Melrose and Austin Preparatory School of Reading, class of 2005, where he was a member of the French Club & Debate Club. Ross adored computer games and played them competitively. He beta-tested well known games and was known to sell his online characters. He liked rollerblading, whether between classes or on nice days, movies and all music. He played piano and sang at the coffeehouse at Austin Prep. Ross's love of language and voicing his opinion manifested itself through active participation in the French & Debate clubs while at Austin Prep. Ross loved making people laugh. "From our first few days together in class, I remember thinking, ‘Here's a man who's going to make his children laugh. Here is a man who deserves the title ‘beloved.' Here's a man who, just by being himself, makes you a better person," wrote Virginia Tech English instructor Robert Canter. According to English instructor Brent Stevens, "Knowing Ross Alameddine…sustains the belief that we all need so desperately right now: that there is good in this world."
