Carolyn Lucille Costley Leary passed away on June 15, 2016. She was 84 years old. She suffered a major stroke coupled with years of dealing with a heart condition. Carolyn had a love for music most of her life. She graduated valedictorian of her graduating class at William Adams High School in Alice and shortly left for Colorado Women’s College in Denver to study piano. She returned to Alice and wed Patrick W. Leary. She was the organist for St. Elizabeth Church and church choir in Alice. For many years, she was a wonderful homemaker, raising 6 children. Family was important to her. She was also very talented in crafting and sewing.

The most important love of hers, other than family, was her love of music. In her 50′s, she went back to college in Kansas to study the cello. She became very active with the local symphonies and did a lot of volunteer work at the local Christian radio station in Kansas. Over the last years of her life, she was a member of several symphonies and enjoyed playing her cello in Kansas, Fredericksburg, Blanco, Texas, and Wimberley, Texas. At the event of her death, she was retired, yet had many wonderful memories of doing what she loved best as a hobby, yet a gift from above.

Carolyn is preceded in death by Patrick W. Leary, someone she held so dear to her heart, and one son, Michael Steven Leary. She is survived by her brother, Steven (Judy) Costley. She is also survived by her other 5 children:
Patrick J. (Rick and Linda) of Phoenix, Arizona; Kym (Michael’s widow) Leary of Spring, Texas; Frances Leary (Karl) Kaiser of Austin, Texas; Leslie Leary (Ed- “Deck”) Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas; Robert E. (Gail) Leary of Wartburg, Tennessee; Katey Leary Hartman (Eddie) of Montgomery Texas; She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
