Calvin David Blunt, 85, of Wilberforce, Ohio departed from this life to life eternal on July 29, 2014 at Greene Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born January 7, 1929 in Youngtown, Ohio to the late Calvin and Adele (Robinson) Blunt. Calvin attended Youngstown Public Schools and was a graduate of South High School in Youngstown. He accepted Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Youngstown until he relocated to the Wilberforce area. He worshipped regularly at both Middle Run Baptist and United AME Churches in Xenia. Upon his graduation he served his country as a member of the United States Army. Following an honorable discharge, he enrolled at Central State University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1956. In 1957, he married Verna Murphy of Struthers, Ohio. Their family grew to include their two children Carolyn and Duane. Over the years Calvin was involved in many business ventures in the Wilberforce and Xenia communities. He retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base after nearly 40 years of service as an accountant. Calvin enjoyed flower gardening, traveling, Wednesday afternoon Bridge at the Wilberforce Community Center and spending time with his grandchildren. He and Verna loved to entertain family and friends. When he was not engaged in these activities, he could be found on CSU's campus eating in the dining hall and sharing words of wisdom to the students about college life, CSU "back in the day," and the importance of setting goals for their future. Calvin was an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and Masonic Lodge #21 He was happily married to Verna Murphy Blunt for 33 years until her death in 1990. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Benjamin Blunt and a sister Gertrude Lennon. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Carolyn (Jesse) Junius of Dayton, Ohio; his son Calvin Blunt of Galloway, Ohio; his sister Martha White of Youngstown, Ohio; three grandchildren: Jesse Junius III of Grandview, Missouri; Caryn Junius and Ciarra Junius both of Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-law Janice (Harold) Harps of Rockville, Maryland; a devoted niece D. Denise Lennon of Yellow Springs, Ohio; a devoted nephew Kenneth (Emily) Lennon of Bedford Heights, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Service for Calvin Blunt were held on Monday August 4, 2014 at Middle Run Baptist Church, 1000 East Church Street Xenia, Ohio. Visitation was from 11:00am until time of service which was at 1:00pm with Pastor Leroy Anthony Officiating and Dr. John E. Freeman Eulogist. Interment followed at Massies Creek Cemetery, Cedarville, Ohio. Arrangements entrusted to Porter-Qualls-Dunlap Funeral Home.
