Samuel McBee, son of William McBee and Louise P Smith, was born in Mercer County, Missouri, according to his wife, Nancy J Booth McBee. His father was dead by the time of the 1860 census, and his mother by 1870. By 1880 Samuel described himself as an engineer, and is living with his wife Nancy in Clay Township, Harrison County, Missouri. By 1900, they are in Lindley Township in Mercer County, Missouri with their five children and one baby granddaughter, Clella Boyd. In 1910, Samuel and Nancy are living in Stevens County, Kansas next door to their daughter Leona, her husband Charlie Higdon and their granddaughter, running a sawmill. By 1920, they are living in the household of that same daughter (Leona) and her husband and daughter, and a grandson from another daughter, Effie, all in Squaw Township, Warren County, Iowa. Their son Sidney had by then left Warren County, Iowa for Saskatchewan, Canada, however the youngest son Harvey was still in Warren County with his wife and their three young children, so there was family to care for him in his final illness, stomach cancer, and to mourn his death.
