July 2, 1925 - May 13, 2018

H. Weldon McCormick was born July 2, 1925, the sixth child born to Joseph and Elizabeth (Brooks) McCormick. He passed away on May 13, 2018 in Levelland, Texas. He grew up on a farm southwest of Roby, Texas.

While in high school, Weldon attended the Stamps Gospel Singing School held each summer in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Roby High School and enrolled in Draughon's Business College. Upon graduation from Draughon's in November of 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed at the Naval Supply Depot in Oakland, California and was responsible for all supply shipments to the Pacific Naval Fleet. He was discharged in April of 1946 and returned to Abilene, Texas.

In January 1947, he entered McMurry College in Abilene, Texas. Upon his graduation, he became a pastor in the United Methodist Church. He also studied at Perkins School of Theology and Scarritt College. During his 40 years in the active ministry, he served churches throughout the Northwest Texas Conference of the Methodist Church, including Abilene, Sweetwater, Dunn/Buford, Rule, Denver City, Dimmitt, Midland, and Levelland. He was Superintendent of the Seymour District of the United Methodist Church and treasurer for the Northwest Texas-New Mexico Area of the United Methodist Church. In 1983, he was awarded the Doctor of Divinity degree from McMurry College.

In July of 1944, he married the love of his life, Mary Kitchens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by two sons, Don (Marilyn) of Levelland and Chris (Joyce) of Hondo, Texas; two grandchildren, Donne (Brent) Baccus and Matthew McCormick; two great-grandchildren, Maycee Baccus (Luke Scarlett) and Wyatt Baccus; and two great-great-granddaughters, Ella Grace Scarlett and Laikyn Jo Scarlett, all of Levelland.

Services will be held at the Krestridge Funeral Home Chapel, 505 Austin Street, Levelland, Texas on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Krestridge Funeral Home.
