David Charles Hubbard 84, of Ardmore,AL died Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama.
Born in Dermott, Arkansas on Monday, August 21, 1933 to Joseph Hubbard and Mary Talley Hubbard. He was a resident of Ardmore, Alabama for 47 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ardmore, Alabama where he served as Sunday School Director, youth leader, and greeter. He served in the Air Force from September 3, 1953 - September 2, 1957 mostly at Eglin Air Force Base. He flew on B-66, B-50, and B-47 weather plans as a radar technician developing Doppler radar. He served during the Vietnam War. He joined the military after his brother, Homer Hubbard, was MIA then a POW during the Korean War. He graduated from Athens State College in 1976 with degrees in Computer Science, Math, and Physics. He served as Ardmore High School Band Booster President and as an active member of the boosters from 1983 until 1989 while his daughter Tammy was in the band. He retired from federal government service in 1995. He volunteered at the Ardmore food bank for over 15 years where he enjoyed being with friends. He was a Mason, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Cahaba Shriner. His hobbies were computers, woodworking, reading, traveling, Alabama football, and spending time with his grandsons. He enjoyed teaching Ben woodworking and was proud to tell everyone that he was named after him. He loved attending Alabama football games and watching Bret on the field with Million Dollar Band.
He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Reba Hubbard of Ardmore, Alabama, daughter, Tammy (Michael) Bowman of Ardmore, Alabama, sons Michael (Christy) Bowen of Jacksonville, Florida and David (Melody) Hubbard Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama. Grandsons Bret Riddle and Ben Riddle of Ardmore, Alabama, Michael (Kylie) Bowen of Jacksonville, Florida granddaughters Dana (Cody) Oboyle of Kentucky, Lacey Hubbard and Allison Hubbard of
Huntsville, Alabama and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Hubbard and Mary Talley Hubbard, his siblings two infant sisters, Lucy and Jeannie Knox and Homer Hubbard.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Service will be Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home starting at 2:00 PM with Bro. Lynn Marshall and Bro. Brian Fourroux officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL.
