Obituary for Arlette Moore

Arlette May Moore entered Heaven’s Gates May 10, 2018 at her home in Corydon, IA. She was 82 years of age.

Arlette was born January 13, 1936 in Wayne County, IA shortly before her twin sister Collette. Her parents were S. Jay and Cordelia Greenlee. Arlette had an older brother William and younger twin brothers Roy and Ray.

She graduated from Cambria-Corydon High School in 1954. Children were precious to Arlette; she served as a teacher’s aide for Head Start for many years and volunteered with Vacation Bible School at the First Baptist Church in Corydon. Her life centered on the church and being of service to others through its ministry. Arlette exuded Christian joy and she was an eternal optimist.

Arlette married Willard LaVerne Moore in 1964 and were blessed with three children; Edward and twin girls Juanita and Danita. She raised her family and lived in Wayne County her entire life. She loved her community and she was a strong community member. She enjoyed serving at her beloved First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, making meals, volunteering wherever needed. She was a member of Eastern Star, a Credit Union board and enjoyed helping those that needed a smile, a hug, or someone to listen.

After devotion to God, family was first and foremost in her life. Brothers and sisters formed a tight knit group who did everything together. They are long-serving members of the church who always looked for any opportunity to get together to eat, celebrate and enjoy each other’s company.

Her life was filled with joy of music - enjoying Saturday night music programs and dances, music in the park at Old Settlers Reunion, grandchildren’s musical programs and plays. She loved attending sporting events of her grandchildren and cheering them on. Arlette had a competitive side; it only surfaced while playing cards at home or the senior meal site. She loved the senior meal site and had many special friends there who helped make her final years enjoyable.

Arlette had a small kitchen, but could cook enough to feed an army. Chicken and noodles, biscuits and gravy, cookies, a million different hamburger concoctions! “You had better come hungry to Arlette’s house.” She truly enjoyed making her famous mints for special occasions. Joy filled her house around the holidays, special events and Sunday mornings; when the “Whole” family was there, there wasn’t always a place to sit but Nana’s house and heart was FULL. She enjoyed every moment of her children, grandchildren and her 2 extra special great grandsons. Her door was always open welcoming anyone and everyone who stopped by.

Her Bible and daily readings occupied the dining table everyday keeping the Lord close to her. Many photos of her family, extended family and lifelong friends surrounded her at home reminding her of all the love over the years. She continued to love her community and all her family to the very end; enjoying everyone and somehow making each person feel like “the favorite one.”

As she served the Lord her entire life, we are at peace that she is with him now.

Arlette is survived by her children; Edward (Linda) Moore of Slater, IA, Juanita (Jeff) Gilley of Grand Junction, IA and Danita (Jim) Heath of DeSoto, IA; grandchildren Emily (Steven) Mason, Malarie Gilley, Jesse (Taylor) Heath, Sydney Moore, Nathan Heath and Seth Moore and two great grandchildren; Grady and Griffin Mason. She is also survived by her sister, Collette (Dale) Rickert and brothers Roy (Linda) and Ray (Betty) Greenlee and many, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Cordelia Greenlee; husband Willard and brother William.

Arlette touched so many lives with her kindness, generosity and wisdom, we will all miss her.

Special thanks to all of you that have been a big part of Arlette’s life. You kept her heart full of love, friendship and loyalty.

I’ve seen better days,
But I’ve also seen worse.
I don’t have everything I want,
But I do have all that I need.
I woke up with some aches and pains,
But I woke up.
My life may not be perfect,
But I am blessed.
