Carl H. Cameron, Jr., age 95, passed away on Friday May 11, 2018 at the Community Hospice Center for Caring at St. Vincent's Medical Center Southside in Jacksonville.
Carl was born on April 5, 1923 in Morristown, Tennessee to Carl H. Cameron, Sr. & Cora Lee Bartley Cameron.
He was a graduate of Morristown High School and East Tennessee State College in Johnson City, Tennessee. Carl served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII and was held as a prisoner of war in Austria for 21 months. After being honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant, Carl went on to work as an IRS Agent for the U.S. Treasury Department for 35 years. He also worked in Tallahassee at the State Insurance Department. Carl was a member of Spring Glen United Methodist Church and the American Legion.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances G. Cameron; one daughter, Louise C. Beck of Jacksonville; one son William F. Cameron (wife, Gina) of St. Augustine and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 between 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd. S., Jacksonville, FL 32216. A graveside funeral service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday May 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Carl's name to the charity of your choice.
