RUFUS WASHBURN
Was a prominent and jovial resident
of Gloversville. He had a fine residence on the northeast corner of
Bleecker and Fulton streets. The
dwelling, which had been erected by
Dr. Mackey, was later called the "Mansion House." Rufus Washburn, who
married Lorrain Knowles, was well
liked by almost every one. "Uncle
Rufe," as he was familiarly called, had
many friends. His daughter married
the well-known grocer, Charles Sweet.
His sons were Lucius and John. The
first named son resides in New England, and the last named has passed
away.
