Mrs. Margaret Shelden, 88, died Dec 4, 1980 in Rockford. Born Aug 11, 1892, in Winnebago, daughter of Robert S. And Mary King Armstrong. Lived 62 years in Rockford, coming here from Winnebago. Married to Walter W. Shelden in Winnebago, April 13, 1918; he died in 1933.

She dedicated her life to the young, at the sick and the underprivileged. She organized the office here of the Winnebago County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and was executive secretary for 19 years, retiring in 1966. Before that she was a case worker nine years for the Rockford Children’s Home and Had worked on the Illinois Emergency Relief Committee and taught school before her marriage, Graduate of Rockford High School and the University of Michigan, class of 1915; ;studied sociology at the University of Wisconsin and University of Chicago. Member of Second Congregational church and the Freeman Circle of the church;

Survivors include a son, James Shelden, Rockford attorney; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Faith Armstrong, Rockford, Predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Shelden Griggs, in 1963
