98, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on May 11, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Campbell.
Evelyn, born on September 8, 1919 in Manhattan, NY to the late Marco and Lucia (Cardarelli) Saggese and spent her early years in The Bronx. She graduated from Evander Childs HS (1937) and attended Baruch College leaving to support her widowed mother.
Evelyn married Bill in 1944 and settled in RI in 1958. Evelyn was a secretary for Providence College from 1961-1989. In retirement Evelyn volunteered at Meals on Wheels into her 90s.
Evelyn and Bill enjoyed 70 years of traveling, family, friends including "Club Dominicana" until Bill's death in 2014.
A "Lady of the Greatest Generation" Evelyn was erudite, adventurous, optimistic, content and thankful for her life. She carried immense devotion for her family and faith.
Evelyn is survived by son Marc and his children Theresa and David and daughter Karen and partner Lynn, a multitude of caring nieces and nephews including great and great-greats as well as numerous loving friends. Evelyn was the sister of the late Violet Ricci and John and Eugene Saggese.
A Mass of Christian Burial shall be celebrated Wednesday May 16, 11 am at Our Lady of Grace Church, 4 Layfayette Street, Johnston followed by burial at Highland Memorial. Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at
Olson & Parent Funeral Home 417 Plainfield Street, Providence.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Evelyn's name to Meals on Wheels, 70 Bath St. Prov. 02908.
