Jacqueline Lee Nelson, age 90 of Sidney, IA, died March 8, 2018, while being cared for in her home by her daughter Nancy with help from Hospice with Heart and from her daughter Diana. Jackie was born January 21, 1928, in San Francisco, CA, to Hugh C. Cronkite and Irma Catherine (Lord) Cronkite. Her mother died just before Jackie turned four, and she was raised by her father and many loving aunts and uncles. She lived in numerous towns throughout central and southern California. Although she was an only child, she had lots of cousins who became like siblings to her. Her father married Helen Wiseley in 1941 and they settled in Berkeley, where Jackie graduated from high school. Jackie met Rex Nelson when he was in the Navy and stationed in California. They married in Berkeley on April 14, 1945, and after his discharge the couple returned to the family farm west of Sidney, where they lived and farmed until 1978. At that time they moved to town and were semi-retired. They were then able to have more time to enjoy activities such as golf, fishing, and traveling. Jacqueline was a long time member of the Sidney United Methodist Church United Methodist Women. She was also a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #128—serving as President in 1965. She had also served as President of the Parent-Teacher Association and Research Club and was a member of PEO and United Faith Church. Jacqueline was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rex in 2003, parents and step-mother. She is survived by three daughters: Barbara Dawson and husband Lyle of Spring Branch, TX, Diana Harris and husband Jim of Percival, IA, and Nancy McKibbin and husband Michael of Peru, NE; 10 grandchildren: Lorrie (Dawson) Thomas and husband John, Brian Dawson and wife Stacie, Amanda (Dawson) Fernandez and husband Don, Charles Dawson and wife Jackie, Jessie Harris, Amy (Harris) Tehan and husband Dennis, Alissa Harris and Jay Harris and wife Jessica, Cara (McKibbin) Kedzior and husband Marcin, Emily (McKibbin) Kinn and husband Dustin; 26 great-grandchildren: Leah, Drew and Sarah Thomas; Katie and Logan Estridge and Jacqueline Dawson; Chris, Joe and Mark Fernandez; Elliot, Oliver, Zoey and John Dawson; Lane Harris; Katelyn, Nicholas and Jackson Tehan; Sofia Barrientos; Jayla, Stella, Kaylee, Joshua and Josslynn Harris; Adam Kedzior; Ethan and Nolan Kinn; brother-in-law Bud Jorgenson, numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
