He graduated from high school in 1973 and enlisted in the US Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge in 1975. Following his military service, he became a truck driver for Fords Produce at the North Carolina State Farmers Market, and later drove trucks for Quality Textiles, Raleigh, NC.
He was predeceased by his mother, Ellen Jeffries. He was survived by his daughter; sister; and many other family and friends.
