Survivors: Wife Betsy; two daughters; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He attended school in Doddridge County, West Virginia, graduated from Mountain State College in Parkersburg in 1927. He had a career as a CPA, worked for Gulf Oil Corporation and Internal Revenue Service, and began his own accounting firm in 1949. Upon retiring in 1973 he became a management consultant serving many clients in the Beckley area, including Vecellio and Grogan and Beckley National Bank. He was involved in many successful partnerships and ventures in the Beckley area. He believed success should be shared with the community and maintained a spirit of giving. He was responsible for many young people fulfilling their dreams of education by sponsoring endowments and scholarships for students in Southern West Virginia. His generosity was a benefit to many.
In his personal life he enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, golf and gardening with a fondness for roses. He enjoyed reading, movies and televised ball games. At various time during his life he has been a member of the Methodist Church, Beckley Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Rural Development Council. Beckley Renaissance, and Black Knight Country Club, Glade Springs and city of Melbourne Golf and Country Club. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Beckley National Bank, a partial owner of Homeseekers Land and Building Company, majority owner and President of Plateau Company, and a member of Beckley Presbyterian Church.
At his request his body will be cremated. His ashes will be at rest at the Sunset Cemetery Mausoleum next to his family members. A memorial service was Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Melton Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 PM officiated by the Rev. Tim Mitchem, his grandson.
The family suggests donations to the Hospice of Beckley and Beckley YMCA in lieu of flowers.
