KINSMAN - Roy James McGill, 86, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1932, in Hubbard, a son of Mary Virginia (Marshall) and Orland “Mac” Edward McGill.

After school Roy served in the U.S. Army. He returned to Kinsman where he was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Harry Lees American Legion, Post No. 506, helping to build both the church and the legion hall. Roy assisted his brother in building McGill Septic Company, but his real passion was he was a lifelong farmer, raising cattle and hogs and farming crops.

He married Mary Delfre on Aug. 18, 1960.

Besides farming, Roy loved to collect antique tools, travel with his wife, visit farm shows and share cooked and bake goods with those nearby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 51 years, Mary D. McGill; and five brothers, Joseph, Orland “Ed,” Frank, John and Charles McGill.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann M. Smith of El Paso, Texas and Rose M. (James Cunningham) McGill of Colebrook; two sons, Roy J. McGill Jr of Portland, Ore. and Joseph L. McGill of Kinsman; and four grandchildren, Alexandra, Janis, Ryan and Ian.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 6397 State Route 87 in Kinsman, with Father Michael A. Mikstay, CAPT CHC USN Retired officiating. Burial will follow at Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 16, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St. in Kinsman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or Harry Lees American Legion.
