Bernice Cecilia Price was born August 5, 1941 in Washington, D.C. to the late Deacon Nathaniel and Deaconess Sarah Price, original members of New Samaritan Baptist Church (NSBC). She was the second child of six siblings from this union. Bernice was one of the original members of the Sunday School here at NSBC. Later, she joined the Choir and was baptized.

Bernice graduated from Cardoza High School in year 1959 and later attended Strayer College where she earned an associates degree.

Bernice worked at the Department of State as an administrative assistant during the years that Henry Kissinger served as the director. She often talked directly to then CIA Director and former President of the United States George "Herbert-Walker" Bush. She loved calling the former president his entire full name because she knew it irked him.

Bernice enjoyed history, foreign affairs, psychology and African cultures. She developed a keen interest to the ancient Moors and the Congo civilization. Furthermore, Bernice studied the Congolese Independence, the atrocities of Prince Leopold and the assassination Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of the Congo.

Her hobbies included sewing, teaching the English language to foreigners and working with children. She was an avid reader, loved cooking Asian food and baking.

Bernice was an original member of the NSBC Sunday school program. As young women growing up in the Washington, D.C., Bernice told stories of watching the Washington Aztecs Negro League baseball team with her grandfather and NSBC founder Deacon Morris Moore and and Deaconess Emma Moore. She talked about the exploits of Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson (hitting home runs out of the old Griffin Stadium on Georgia Avenue) and Cool "Papa" Bell.

She enjoyed gospel and soul music artist such as James Brown, the legendary Aretha Franklin and went to school with Marvin Gaye. She other told stories of how Marvin was very quiet in school. She remembered Marvin's father being a store-front preacher.

Her absolute favourite male singer was Al Green. She had no issues taking a train to some of the legendary night clubs in Atlantic city (The 500 Club, Club Harlem & Babette's) to see Green perform.

Bernice did have one major flaw. she was a Dallas Cowboys fan.

Married in February of 1960 to Richard "Edward" Holmes, before devoicing in 197?, Bernice leaves to mourn her two devoted children Yvette Holmes (Todd Thompson) and Mark Holmes (Elsie Maddox); two brothers Nathaniel "Butch" Price Jr. and Michael Price; three sisters Valerie Bullock, Leona Douglas and Denise Price; the late Nathaniel "Butch", Valerie, Delores, Michael and Denise. Two grandsons Aris Thompson and Marcus Holmes.
