Lora E Swafford Faulkner was born on 20 July, 1888, in Bainbridge, Williamson County, Illinois to William Reynolds Swafford and Nancy Mariah Brack Swafford. As a young girl, her family moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri where she grew up with her siblings, Edward, Ada, Dora, Joshua, Thomas, and Jessie.

Lora married Charles Fountain Faulkner on 7 March 1908 in Shelby County, Tennessee. Their first child, William Melvin, was born in Tennessee. They soon moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where their daughter, Francis, was born in St. Louis in 1909.

The family continued to grow following a move to Illinois, with Phil, Carl, Clarence Charles, Dorothy, Ernest, and Abe born between 1918 and 1930. Charles and Laura remained living in Chicago throughout their lives. By profession, Lora as a nurse.

Lora Swafford Faulkner died on 31 January 1964 in Cook County, Illinois, at the age of 75.
