Wilmer Cassens, 79, of 2284 Highway 61, near Golden, died at 5:25 a.m. Sunday (March 21, 2004) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Born Jan. 22, 1925, in Clayton Township, Mr. Cassens was a son of Henry G. and Pauline A. Weerts Cassens. He married Norita F. Gronewold on July 28, 1957. She survives.
Mr. Cassens was a graduate of LaPrairie High School. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden and had held several offices on the church council.
He farmed in Houston Township and also enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Cassens had served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War and was a member and past commander of the Golden American Legion Post No. 801.
Also surviving are three sons, Eric and his wife, Cindy, Alan and Brad and his wife, Julie, all of Camp Point; nine grandchildren, Erica and Justin Cassens, Bryan, Alana, Amy and Katy Cassens and Devin, Jaden and Delaney Cassens, all of Camp Point; two sisters, Carlene Alhorn and her husband, Wilbur, of Golden, and Marjorie Hyer of Mendon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden by the Rev. James Trutwin. Burial will be in the Golden Memorial Gardens in Golden.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Golden.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Golden American Legion Post No. 801.
