Clara Dean (Swainston) Lewis passed away peacefully on May 11, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her daughter and two granddaughters.

Clara was born on August 31, 1929, 4 1/4 miles north of Jerome, Idaho in what was known as the Hancock Place. A little later the house was finished on what was known as the sand farm. Clara lived there until she was 9 years old.

Some of Clara's favorite pastimes as a child were riding horses, jumping rope and playing baseball. When she was in the 4th grade she traveled with the team and played left field.

Clara went to the Appleton Grade School and graduated from the 8th grade when she was 13. She graduated from Jerome High School in 1947. Shortly after graduation Clara and two of her friends moved to Boise and went to Links Business College. The Two friends didn't stay too long, but Clara finished two sets of books, getting 94% and 96%. She loved numbers and was always counting. She worked in a Variety Store for a while, and then did Income Taxes until Spring for Ed Gleason. In the Spring she worked on her sister and brother-n-laws farm.... walked untold miles behind a 2 head team of horses named Toots and Coaley.

Clara met and married the love of her live, George R. Lewis on August 6, 1948 in her parents living room. They had only known each other for six days!!! Their marriage lasted 64 years, at which time George passed away.

She loved making things with her hands; ceramics, plastic canvas, crocheting, beads and embroidery work, which took blue ribbons at the State Fair. She was also an avid Bowler and has many patches and 200 pins to prove it. Clara was a stay at home Mom until 1964, when her daughter joined the Purple B'zs. She then went to work in the restaurants to earn extra money for the beautiful outfits that would be needed. She loved to cook and was very good at it.

Clara was an active member of the LDS Church and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved meeting with her Crazy Ladies on Monday evenings where they would visit, have a lesson or play Chicken Foot.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Milo and Myrtle (Jenkins) Swainston; sisters: Thelma Shawver and Donna Clairborne; brothers: Arelious, Albert and Morris Swainston; her husband, George Lewis.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Bergen; son, Walter R. (Kym) Lewis; granddaughters: Melissa (Dan) Thornley, Cynthia Beal; grandson, Andrew (Rani) Bergen; six Great-Grandchildren: Riley and Ethan Beal, David, Faith and Hope Bergen, and Kevin Thornley.
