Funeral services for Margaret Elaine Snow, 83, of Carlsbad, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church with Gene Harbaugh officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at West Funeral Home.

Margaret Elaine Seery Snow was born in Belen, New Mexico; the oldest of four children, on November 18, 1934. When she was nineteen years old, she moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico and married Cecil Brininstool. They had four sons. Margaret sought to instill in her children a life-long desire to learn about the world in which they live, specifically in terms of science, the arts, and the value of travel.

In 1975, Margaret married Robert Snow who shared with her the joy of traveling. They spent many years traveling throughout Europe, a great deal of time in La Jolla, California, the continental United States, and visits with family members.

Margaret believed in the value of education, attending New Mexico State University in Las Cruces earning, first, her bachelor’s degree in education, and then her master’s degree in reading literacy. Her greatest contributions to her adopted hometown of Carlsbad are in the area of education as an elementary school teacher, a central office administrator, and an adjunct professor at the Carlsbad branch of the College of the Southwest. She was most proud of the role she played in the creation of the Carlsbad Public Schools Early Childhood Education Center and her involvement with the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad.

Margaret enjoyed excellent health until Alzheimer’s began to rob her of her memories, her faculties, and her personality. She spent the last few years of her life residing at Landsun Homes where she passed away in the morning hours of Friday, May 11, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Virginia (Bandy) Seery, her brother David Seery, her husband, Robert Snow, and her stepson, William Snow. She is survived by her brother Alfred Seery and sister Marilyn Beal; her children Cecil Allen Brininstool (Debbie) of Flower Mound, Texas; Charles Morman Brininstool of Irving, Texas; Michael Ross Brininstool (Stacey Curtis) of La Jolla, California; Philip John Brininstool of The Woodlands, Texas, Bruce Snow (Cathy) of Collierville, Tennessee, and Nancy Dugger (Charles) of Greeley, Colorado. Grandchildren are Andrew Brininstool, Allison Marr, DeEtte Sallee, Ryan Brininstool, Russell Brininstool, Ian Brininstool, Taylor Brininstool and Stephanie Brininstool, Emily Bylund, Isaac Snow, Jonathan Snow, Matthew Snow, Sarah Turner, Teresa Grange, Erin Hicks, Vicki Cirbo, and Chip Dugger. Additional survivors include twenty great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
