McABEE, Donnie K. passed away in Sacramento, Calif., on October 25, 2006, at 98 years of age. Donnie moved to Sacramento from Arizona in her early twenties. During WWII, Donnie was one of seven original women who operated the Citrus Heights Fire Dept., working to keep their community safe. Employed by the Civil Engineering Dept. at Mather AFB for many years, Donnie was respected as a conscientious and knowledgeable supervisor. She retired from Federal Government service in 1973. Donnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bernard McAbee and her dear son, Ercil "Mac" McAbee. Missing her greatly is her loving daughter Patricia Anderson (Raymond) of Sacramento; daughter-in-law Susie McAbee of Portland, Ore.; many nieces and nephews; Grandchildren, Lauri Troxel (Jim) of Lincoln, Holly Roberts (Bill) of Brazil, Ind., Jennifer Thomas of Portland, Tori Gandy of La Grand, Ore., and Deborah Adams of Apple Valley, Calif.; great-grandchildren Cory Layton (Cathy) of Citrus Heights, Dan Troxel and Austin Harper, both of Lincoln, Jack and Ned Thomas of Portland, and Clara Faye Gandy of Ore.; and her only great-great-grandchild, Aires Layton. Her final resting place is with her loving husband at South East Lawn, Elk Grove.
