Donald Richard Suddock, 84, of Oswego, formerly of Emporia, died Monday, May 8, 2018, at Oswego Health and Rehab.

Don was born Aug. 9, 1933, in Emporia, the son of Joseph and Lora Metcalf Suddock.

He married Verna Mae Tallman in 1959, and they later divorced.

Surviving family members include a son, Mark Suddock of Mound Valley; six grandchildren, Clayton Burkhart, Heather Sharp, Kimmie Sue Suddock, Mindy Suddock, Mark Suddock and Serria Suddock; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Deloris Kay Suddock and Sharolyn Dawn Suddock; a grandson, Josh Suddock; three brothers, Clayton Suddock, Joe Suddock Jr. and Robert Lee Suddock; and four sisters, Jean Hinson, Betty Haivald, Helen Howel and Dorothy Briant.

Don worked for the Emporia school district and the city of Emporia before becoming the custodian at the American Legion in Emporia. Don served in the U.S. Army from August 1951 to November 1953 during the Korean War.

Cremation is planned with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Patio Garden of Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Burial will follow. Military services will be provided by Ball-McColm Post No. 5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post No. 1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions to the American Legion may be sent in care of the funeral home.
