Michael Burke

Michael Thomas Burke, 27, of Manhattan, N.Y., formerly of Donnellson, died in a storm-related accident while on RAGBRAI at 1 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2005, in Sheldon.

Born June 7, 1978, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Thomas and Bette Winnike Burke.

Mr. Burke worked as an industrial engineer for Accenture Consulting.

He was a 1996 graduate of Central Lee High School, where he was active in sports, music and drama. In 2001, he graduated from the University of Iowa with an industrial engineering degree. While in college, he sang with the Newman Singers. He was an avid Hawkeyes and Cardinals fan. He was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include his parents of Donnellson; three sisters, Stephanie Raiff of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Angie Miller and Jennifer Brandt, both of Phoenix; one niece; one nephew; and maternal grandparents, Bob and Bernice Winnike of West Point.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, with a rosary to be recited at 3 p.m., a wake service at 7 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

A memorial Mass for Mr. Burke will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Apo Mpanda as celebrant. Burial will be in String Prairie Cemetery near Donnellson.

A memorial has been established.
