Mr. Herbert Morris Willis, 89, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014. He was born December 8, 1924 in Jackson County, Michigan to the late Archibald and Anne Hughes Willis. Mr. Willis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He graduated from Michigan St. University and Kingsport Academy in New York. Mr. Willis was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Merchant Marines serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U.S. Customs Service as a Port Director. Mr. Willis was a member of the Masonic Lodge 289 and was the founder of South Little League. Preceding him in death was his wife, Patricia and a sister, Sylvia Willis. Surviving are a son, Mike Willis (Margaret) of Phoenix, AZ;two daughters, Sue Hartman (Terry) of Charlotte, NC and Kim Tisler (Steve) of Berkley, Michigan;five grandchildren;one great-granddaughter;also surviving is a brother, Art Willis of Cement City, Michigan and a sister, Joyce Halliday of Houston, Texas. A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2014 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Chaplain Mike Wolff officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr. Charlotte, NC 28215 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 705 Griffith St. Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036.
