NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.--Guy O. Thompson, 99, died peacefully at Westwood Nursing Home on May 8, 2018, following a short illness.
A visitation will be held this Friday evening from 5 until 7 at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 1 o'clock in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Cumberland, followed by interment in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.
Guy was born at home in Onego, W.Va., in 1919 to Julie and Ora Thompson. They moved to Maryland when he was six months old where he spent his entire life until he moved to North Augusta in 2012.
He enlisted in the US Army Air Force on April 21, 1941, and eventually earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Guy served in Ordinance with the 82nd Fighter Squadron of the 78th Fighter Group and was stationed at Ducksford Royal Air Force Base, Cambridge, England.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Audrey and four siblings, Hansel Thompson, Kenneth Thompson, Joseph "Pete" Thompson and Naomi Thompson Johnson.
Survivors include two sons, Michael G. Thompson (Maria), Carmona, Spain and David F.O. Thompson (Virginia), North Augusta; 8 grandchildren, David M. Thompson, Jennifer Patton, Melissa Creel, Michael Tubbs, Mark Thompson, Peter Thompson, Brad Thompson and Jason Thompson; 10 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank University Hospital, Regency Hospice and especially Westwood Extended Care for their loving and compassionate care.
