Ronnie Ray Setzer has driven his last truck, this time through the pearly gates of Heaven. Of all the trips he took, this one is definitely his favorite.

Just like his brother, Ronnie was born March 11, 1942 in Claremont to the late Coyte Setzer and Isobel Yount Setzer.

Ronnie has traded in his earthly body for a brand-new model with no weaknesses. We have no doubts he is in heaven playing solitaire, asking everyone where they’re from, and cracking jokes.

Some of Ronnie’s favorite titles were “husband”, “dad”, and “sticky papaw.” Lend him an ear and he would tell you all about how proud he was of his family. He enjoyed sharing stories and jokes from his time traveling the world driving trucks for Catawba Valley Motor Lines, CommScope, Hickory Springs, and several others.

Ronnie was known for always having a smile on his face, expressing his faith through his actions, and being an active member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton.

In addition to his parents he is being greeted with open arms by his sister, Patsy, as well as many aunts, uncles, and friends.

His lifelong mission of bringing light and laughter to the world will be carried on by:
His high school sweetheart, best friend, and wife of 57 years, Juanita Gregory Setzer
Son: Ron Setzer and wife Stephanie of Conover
Daughter: Angie Setzer Sherrill and husband David of Newton
Identical twin brother: Lonnie Setzer and wife Barbara of Conover
Sister: Cheryl Setzer Kiziah and husband Dave of Conover
Grandchildren: Jeremy Hipps and wife Krissy, Baillie Setzer, Andie Setzer, and Savanna Sherrill
Great-Grandchildren: Jordin Hipps, Mary Mak Burris, Emma Burris, and Ella Burris

As a family, we raise our coffee mugs of ice cream as we celebrate the life Ronnie lived and all the love he gave us. Here’s to you Ronnie! You will be so dearly missed! Lastly, Garfield if you’ve got your ears on — until we see you again.

A service to celebrate Ronnie’s life will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton. Rev. David Hamlyn will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.
