A native of McDowell County, he attended Cross Mill Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Gilliam Haynes; two sons, Jimmy Alvin Haynes of Palm Bay, FL, and Stanley Haynes of Nebo; two brothers, Jay Haynes of Lenoir and Boyd Haynes of Marion; three sisters: Kathleen Gay and Helen Holland of Marion and Nannie Lee Parker of Winston Salem; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 6, at 2 pm at Cross Mill Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Rev. Taylor Lantham will officiate and burial will follow in McDowell Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 pm at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, NC and will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
