William Robertson
There passed away at his home at Union Hall, on the second line of Ramsay on Friday morning, January 25, a respected resident of the community in the person of William Robertson. He was born almost 68 years ago on the old Robertson homestead and spent all his life on the same place. His passing will be felt by every one in the community as his sterling qualities and quiet, genial personality had endeared him to all with whom he came in contact and he had a circle of friends and neighbours which few persons have the privilege to enjoy. Five years ago he had a very severe attack of pneumonia from which he never fully recovered and the weakness which caused his death was due to stomach trouble which gradually sapped his strength till the end came peacefully after about three weeks confined to his bed. His family were all at his bedside when the end came, his son Gordon arriving from the west a few days before his death. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters, Roy on the homestead, Gordon of Penticton B.C. Laura (Mrs. W. Miller) of Halpenny and Nellie (Mrs. H McIntosh) of Kingston, and one sister, and three brothers, Annie, Mrs. Chas. McNeil of Claytou, Jno. of Union Hall, Archie of Carleton Place and Jas. D. of Almonte. The funeral on Sunday was largely attended considering the extreme weather conditions prevailing and was conducted by Mr. Hodges of the Presbyterian church, Clayton, of which congregation deceased had been a respected elder for almost nineteen years. The pallbearers were five of his brother elders: George Robertson, John R. Reid, Charles McNeil, W.E Sutherland, James McIntosh and his nephew, W.H. Robertson, an elder of the Presbyterian church, Almonte, After the service the funeral cortege proceeded to the family burial plot a short from the home. The sympathy of the community goes out to the widow and fami1y in their sad bereavement
