Last Rites for Mrs. Lewis Chase To Be Held Friday

Mrs. Lewis Chase, 59, who has been in failing health for the past two months, died Tuesday morning, January 1, 1952 at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where she had been receiving treatment.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, from the Weston and Woodard funeral home with the Rev. Selden H. Ward, pastor of the Vorea Community church, officiating. Burial will be in the Wesleyan cemetery near Lacona.

A lifelong resident of Boylston, Hattie C. Chase was born in that town on April 8, 1892, the daughter of Parker and Etta Stevens Cummings. She attended Boylston schools and on October 28, 1908 was married to Lewis Chase, son of Simon and Lydia A. Paddock Chase of Boylston. Both were descendants of pioneer Boylston families and spent their married life on a farm in that town where Mr. Chase has been a successful farmer, specializing at one time in purebred Brown Swiss cattle.

For the past two years, Mrs. Chase had been active in the auxiliary of Cable Trail Post, Veterans of Foreign wars.
Several years ago Mrs. Chase was severely injured in an automobile accident, remaining in the hospital for eleven months. However, she made a gallant fight for recovery and was eventually able to walk again.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Kenneth L. of Sandy Creek and Harlow of Orwell; a daughter, Mrs. Irving (Mildred) Lustig of Syracuse; and three grandchildren
