Gene McDaniel, 74, of Carthage, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, May 8, 2018, in Longview. Curtis Gene McDaniel was born on Sept. 23, 1943, in Panola County to the late S.A. “Shorty” and Hazel Marie Gray McDaniel. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1963. Gene married Brenda Doggett March 30, 1985, in Carthage. He worked for many years as a home builder, owning M&M Construction and later owned and operated M&M Seeding & Barricade. He worked at Monsanto Chemical in Texas City as a lab technician and finally for Union Pacific in Carthage from 1979 until his retirement in 2005. Gene was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He lived most of his life in Panola County and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gene McDaniel, Jr.; brother, Jerry McDaniel; daughter-in-law, Kim Richards; and a great-grandson, Kent Richards.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Carthage; daughters, Tiffani May and husband Kevin of Carthage and Teel Hooper of Beckville; step-children, David Richards and wife Michelle of Center and Donna Saxon and husband Roy of Carthage; sister, Charlotte LaGrone and husband Mack of Hallsville; sister-in-law, Darlene McDaniel of Missouri; grandchildren, Brett and Chandler May, Kennedy Hooper, Kagen Smith, Bradley Richards, Jacob, Jaxon, and Jace Covington, and Jesse and Sarah Saxon; great-grandchildren, Connor, Natalie, and Kiersten; special friends, Tim Leggett and Charles Holcomb. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Restland Memorial Park with Bro. Randy Miller officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
