From the Norfolk County (Mass.) Journal, Sept. 27, 1862:
The Killed in Capt. King's Company
[For the following biographies of the martyred dead of the 35th regiment, from this city (with one exception), we are indebted to Franklin Williams, Esq. Mr. Williams contributed a touching article of farewell to Capt. King's company, when it left our city, which our readers will doubtless call to mind.]
Joseph Lambert was an apprentice to Andrew W. Newman, blacksmith. He long had a desire to go, and with difficulty restrained himself, till the formation of this company, filled with his friends and acquaintances, renewed his bent. He told his employer his country needed his brawny arm and sinewy form, and, if he gave his consent, he would follow the example of his father in New Hampshire, and go. His employer, though he was an excellent workman, consented, playfully requiring that when the war was over he should come back and finish his trade. He was 20 years old, and unmarried.
