LAGRANGE - Funeral services for Heather "Heat" Wiggins, 35, of LaGrange, formerly of Austin, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at the Koenig & Strickland Chapel in LaGrange with the Rev. Ellis McKenzie officiating. A private family interment will be held at a later date.

Friends may call Koenig & Strickland after 4 p.m. today, where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m.

Born in Kilgore, Texas, June 2, 1971, Heather Lynn Wiggins lived in Kilgore until she graduated from Kilgore High School, where she was a twirler and played the flute, and moved to Austin, Texas in 1989 to attend the University of Texas. Heather later transferred and graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1995 with a degree in accounting.

Heather joined CNSI as a phone operator in 1989, where she found her calling in telecommunications and met many friends. It was while Heather was working at CNSI that her first symptoms of scleroderma would appear, though it was diagnosed under the label of Lupus at the time. In 1997, Heather joined IXC Communications (later Broadwing Communications), where she worked until 2005 as a network planning engineer. Heather, known as "Heat" to her family and friends, enjoyed traveling and meeting people, never meeting a stranger. She enjoyed scrapbooking and photography.

Heather took up the challenge of bringing scleroderma to the minds of many - not to mention how to spell and pronounce it - after she was diagnosed in 1994. She was an active board member of the Scleroderma Foundation Texas Bluebonnet Chapter and also served as co-captain of the Austin support group. Through pledges for the annual fund-raising walks, Heather collected donations totaling over $35,000 through the course of the years.

After a long battle with scleroderma, Heather went to be with her Lord on Saturday April 14, 2007, surrounded by her family, when she took her last breath here on Earth and her first breath in Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Gilliand, and J.B. and Audrey Wiggins.

Heather Lynn is survived by her parents, Sheila and Harry Wiggins of LaGrange; sister, Rhonda, and brother-in-law, Simon Phillips, and nephew Jackson Kyle Phillips of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandmother, Una Smith of White Oak, Texas; surrogate grandparents, Maurice and Juanita Collins of Kilgore; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Scleroderma Foundation , c/o Jennifer Rossberg, 6863 Blackwood Dr., Dallas, TX 75231, or donations may be made to Hospice Brenam,

Funeral arrangements are by Koenig & Strickland, 208 W. Pearl, LaGrange, TX 78945, (979) 968-3121.
