Robert Wickliffe, one of the oldest residents of Butler township, passed away yesterday morning at 6:30 o'clock at his home, at the age of 87 years. Mr. Wickliffe was born and reared in Greenville county, and lived the greater part of his life here. He was a Confederate veteran and had a most interesting war record. He saw service during the entire period of the war and could tell many thrilling incidents from his experience during that time. He was a member of Company A, 22nd South Carolina Shirt brigade.
For 40 years he was a watchman at the H. C. Markley Coach factory, beginning his service with that firm shortly after the close of the war.
Mr. Wickliffe was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church.
He is survived by one son, W. W. Wickliffe, of Greenville county and by two daughters, Mrs. Nettie Vaughn, of Greenville county and Mrs. T. P. Kind of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the home in Butler township, at 4 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. J. Newton Watson.
The pall bearers will be Robert Kellett, Fred Johnston, T. P. Kellett, Z. T. Ballenger, W. P. Miller, and A. N. DeCamp.
Interment will be made in the Laurel Creek church cemetery.
