David Ballou, 12 Stricken Suddenly By Fatal Illness

Residents of the eastern section and of this community were shocked by the sudden death of David Clyde Ballou, 12, which occurred early Tuesday morning, September, 21, 1954 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse. His death occurred about two hours after he was rushed to the hospital by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ballou of R.D. 2, Lacona, with the aid of an escort from the Pulaski state police sub-station.

Cause of his death has not been definitely established pending further investigation.

He was apparently in good health when he went to bed Monday evening after having attended school that day as usual at the Sandy Creek Central school where he was enrolled in the seventh grade. About 10 o'clock his parents heard him cry out and found him apparently in a coma, from which they were unable to arouse him.

Taken to the Hospital

He was taken to the office of Dr. Hugh McChesney in Pulaski who advised immediate removal to the hospital and arranged for an escort car from the state police sub-station. At North Syracuse he was transferred to a waiting hospital ambulance and taken to St. Joseph's hospital for emergency treatment, to which he failed to respond. His death occurred about 1:30 a.m.

Funeral Thursday

The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Weston & Woodard Funeral home, Sandy Creek, and burial will be in Wesleyan Cemetery. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Leland Webster, pastor of Sandy Creek Methodist church, assisted by the Rev. Adelbert Edwards, pastor of the Boylston Wesleyan church.

David was born July 18, 1942 in Syracuse, the son of Clyde and Isabel Chrisman Ballou of R.D. 2, Lacona. He was a member of the seventh grade of the Sandy Creek Central school.

Surviving, besides his parents, are his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton Chrisman and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Fred Bambury of Orwell; several aunts, uncles and cousins
