Delbert Marcell “Corkey” Ambrose

Delbert (Corkey) Marcell Ambrose of East Lake, died Saturday, May 23, in an Edenton hospital. He was 68.

Mr. Ambrose was born in East Lake and was a retired self-employed brick mason and a member of the East Lake Holiness Church. He was a church superintendent, deacon, and played with the East Lake Gospel Singers.

He was the son of the late Andrew Lee and Nancy Adeline Smith Ambrose and the husband of Illa Mae Cahoon Ambrose.

Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters: Wendy Leigh Hemilright of East Lake and Nancy Louise Craddock of Manns Harbor; three brothers: Willard Lee Ambrose of Virginia Beach, Va., Irving Bright Ambrose and Terry Smith Ambrose of East Lake; and three grandchildren, Cory Ted Hemilright, Joshua Craddock and Amanda Craddock.

He was predeceased by two sons: Dell Marcell and Andrew Lee Ambrose.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 27, at 2 p.m. in Twiford's Colony Chapel by the Revs. Calvin Twiddy, James Tosto, and Bobby Beasley, with burial in the East Lake Methodist Church Cemetery.
