DEATH OF MRS. HERMAN---Elizabeth Jane Hayes was born January 2, 1839 on a farm near Bainbridge, Ross co., Ohio, where she resided with her parents until grown up to womanhood. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of fifteen years and has ever since lived in the true faith of her Lord and Master. She was married to William W. Herman March 20, 1861. To this union were born seven children, four of them having passed away. Edgar M., the only son, died in Ohio. Mrs. Joe Herman, Mrs. W.T. Clark and Eva Herman are lying at rest in the beautiful Burlingame cemetery. The remaining children are Mrs. Frank Davis of Reading, Kansas; Mrs. Lola Roush, of Fort Worth, Texas; and Mrs. W.C. Fenwick, of Topeka, Kansas.
In 1866 Mr. and Mrs. Herman moved from Ohio to Iowa and in 1870 to Kansas, locating near Wilmington and Burlingame, their trading point from that time until now, with the exception of about a year and a half when they resided in Lincoln. In 1900 they became residents of Burlingame.
Mrs. Herman was stricken with paralysis the morning of July 28 and passed away in the evening of July 31. The funeral services were held in the First Methodist church and interment was made in the Burlingame cemetery August 2.
The first paragraph of this obituary, with the exception of two changes in the places of residence of the surviving children, was written by the deceased some time ago, and was found among her papers after her death.
