Harry Ray Cummings of Yakima passed away on Nov. 14, 2013 at the Cottage in the Meadow hospice facility at the age of 84 years. He was born on June 27, 1929 in Yakima to Harry G. and Esther Cummings of Wapato and attended schools there until his graduation in 1947. He participated in football, basketball and won the state doubles tennis title in 1947. He attended Washington State College in Pullman and graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1951. He was a Lambda Chi member.He married WSC co-ed Sidsel Guldjord, of Poulsbo, WA, on June 30, 1951 and they were happily married for 62 years. "Ray" joined his father in the Wapato-based family business, Cummings Electric and spent 48 years there. He was an Air Force major who served in Greenland during the Korean conflict. Four children were born, Dale (1952), Sharon (1955), Ted (1957) and Linda (1958). He volunteered for the Wapato Fire Dept; he was a Harvest Festival electrician, Lions Club President & Secretary, Block Watch captain, Wapato Presbyterian Church deacon/elder and choir member, asst. tennis coach at Wapato High along with being the Larson Park president and tournament director for numerous years.He enjoyed family tennis on Sundays with his entire family at Larson Park on the YVC campus and was a top PNW tournament player for many years, lap swimming, skiing at White Pass, golfing at various courses in the region, and service work at church and area hospitals doing visitations. He especially enjoyed travel with his wife to the Hawaiian Islands, New Zealand, Australia, Norway, Scotland and bike tours in Germany and England.He is survived by his wife Sidsel at home; two strapping sons, Dale (Judith) Cummings of Seattle and Ted (Laura) Cummings of Walla Walla; two lovely daughters, Sharon (Ted) Leslie of Terrace Hts. and Linda Roe of Anchorage; a brother, Ted (June) Cummings of Yakima; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and good friends.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northstar Lodge or Cottage in the Meadow.2nd Timothy 2:15: "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth."
A memorial service will be held on Nov. 30, 1pm at Westminster Presbyterian in Yakima with dessert reception to follow at the church.
