Fred L Wood, age 78, passed away May 6, 2018 at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima, WA surrounded by his loving family.

Fred was born to Ethel and Hank Wood on June 8, 1939 in Yakima, WA. In 1958 Fred married Patricia Ginder; the couple remained in Yakima where they raised their family.

Fred worked at Howatts Archery where he made bows and arrows for several years before he became a roofer. Over the next 30 years he worked for Valley Roofing and Wagner’s Roofing.

Out of a deep sense of commitment to his community Fred also served as a volunteer firefighter at the Gleed fire department for 30 years and gave over 13 gallons of blood at the Red Cross.

In his spare time Fred loved to fish and take his boat to Clearlake. He also loved the outdoors, visiting Ocean Shores and camping with his grandchildren.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, the highlight of that was attending a NASCAR race in Fontana, California.

His pride and joy were all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His very special grandchildren are Leslie Wheeler (Kyle), Erin Williams (Adam), Jason Gray (Katie), Shawna Dodge (Sam), Kailey Dodge, Tanya Smith (Chris) and Freddy Wood (Alisha).

His great-grandchildren are Haven Wheeler, Casen Wheeler, Grayson Williams, Dominik Gray and Emmaline Gray. Also, his great-grandchildren whom he never met, Caleb Smith, Brooklynn Smith, Freddy Wood, and Daniel Wood.

Fred also had several furry companions over the years, but his current best friend was his cocker spaniel who he lovingly referred to as his “little Daisy.”

Fred was preceded in death by his son Freddy Wood, his parents Ethel and Hank Wood and his brothers Stanley Wood and Melvin Baptista.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Patricia Wood, two daughters, Kathy Gray (Ken) and Judy Dodge (Shawn), his sisters, Shirley Taylor, Winnie (Babe) Honeycutt and Deloris Baptista, and his brothers, Chuck Wood and Jim Wood.
