NORFOLK - Anderson L. Tompkins Sr., 75, of the 5400 block of Barnhollow Road, died November 28, 1995, in a local hospital.

Mr. Tompkins was a retired government supervisor with 31 years of service. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk, and he attended Norfolk State College. He was an Army veteran. He was a former treasurer and trustee of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Norfolk. Mr. Tompkins was a member of the Tri-Cities Associates, YMCA, National Association of Supervisors, NAACP, Norfolk State University Alumni Association, former vice president of Chesterfield Club, and a past president of the Lion's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Emily J. Tompkins; two sisters, Lillie Mae T. Ruff and Muriel T. Jones of Norfolk; brother, Elridge C. Tompkins of Norfolk; son, Anderson L. Tompkins Jr. of Hampton; stepson, Leon Wallcott of California; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon Saturday in Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. John R. Davis. Mr. Tompkins' remains will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until noon. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will assemble at the home of Muriel T. Jones, 987 Albert Ave., Norfolk, for the procession to the church. Hale Funeral Home is in charge. The family also will receive friends at 987 Albert Ave., at all other times.
