YATES, Rebecca Jane Boswell, 89, of Richmond, died Saturday, May 5, 2018. Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Professor James Boswell and Mary "Eva" Boswell; and her sister, Judith Swann Boswell Cosby (77071306). Becky is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Daniel A. Yates; their four children, Mary (Jim) Hayes, Kathy (Jim Lovell) Yates, Becky (Joel) Nuckols and Bill (Joan) Yates; and her brother, James Boswell. Becky was dearly loved by her 15 grandchildren, Jim, Dave, Tom, Mary Eva, Renee, Michael, James, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Malcolm, Jenny, Mary Meg, Joey, Danny and Johnny Mac; and her great-grandchildren, Andy, Lilly, Owen, Simon, Thatcher, Elliot, Joseph, Jack, Janey, James, Joy, Annabelle, Benjamin, Coleman, Lena, Zoe, Blake, Theo, Wilson and Eleanor. Becky was born on August 15, 1928, in Pennsylvania. She was outgoing, exuberant and "never met a stranger." A graduate of Ursinus College, she was swept off her feet by a dashing young soldier, Dan Yates and they were married on August 26, 1950. In 1962, they moved to Richmond, Va., where they rediscovered their southern roots. They joined St. Bridget Catholic Parish, where she was active in the Legion of Mary, CFM, Cursillo and other ministries. Becky became an avid tennis player and a familiar figure on the courts at Kanawha Recreation Association and, later, Westwood Racquet Club. As their nest began emptying, Dan and Becky discovered a passion for world travel. Over the next decades, they traveled to all seven continents and enjoyed exploring other countries and cultures, meeting new friends wherever they went. Becky was an avid bridge player and delighted in countless hours of games and fun with friends and family. For over 50 years, they enjoyed hosting their growing family and many friends at their Sandbridge beach cottage. Despite her many activities, Becky's abiding passion was for her husband and four children and later, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her easy smile, ready wit and love for all made her a great friend to everyone she met. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd., with a visitation one hour prior. Donations in her name may be made to Society of African Missions, 23 Bliss Ave., Tenafly, N.J. 07670.
