Heaven welcomed Naomi Ruth Mitchell, 84, on March 22, 2018, leaving behind a legacy of her character, kindness and abundant love.

Naomi was born in Baum, OK on Feb 8, 1934, to John Griffin and Myrtle Lee (Coursey) Clark. Naomi attended Dickson High School for 11 years and graduated high school in Elmore City, OK in 1953. Naomi was a very bright and loving sister. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her. She grew up with a strong faith and close walk with her Lord and Savior. For many years she taught Sunday School and was an avid student of the Bible. Christian music was always a part of Naomi’s life. She sang with trios and quartets in her younger years. At two years of age, her mother passed, and at age 11, her father passed, also. Naomi was reared by her siblings.

She married the love of her life, Arthur Mitchell, on Aug. 9, 1957, and devoted her life to him, sharing 61 years. They enjoyed friends, family and gardening. She worked for several plumbing companies and Hudson-Houston Lumber Company, all of Ardmore; and First State Bank of Dumas, Texas, for six years. Naomi volunteered for approximately 20,000 hours at Mercy Auxiliary (Pink Darlings.)

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, A.C. Clark and Julius Clark; and sisters, Lavada Dulaney and Winnie Hoover.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur, and one son, Dale Mitchell, who was the joy of her life. She is also survived by one sister, Geraldine Forson; one brother, Johnny Clark and wife Helen; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended families and many dear friends.

Our heartfelt thanks to the services of the Cross Timbers Hospice of Ardmore, whose capable nurses and staff gave stellar support and direction in our time of need. Words cannot express our overwhelming gratitude to Janet Lindsey for her incredible loving care and devotion for Naomi during the past 18 months.

Funeral services were held March 26, 2018, in the Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home with the Rev. H. H. Davis officiating and the Rev. Ronnie Carroll assisting. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Don Olive, Steve Dodson, Gary Campbell, Wendell Gooden, Carlton Freeman and Joe Fine.

Those wishing to give donations may make them to Cross Timbers Hospice, 207 C St. N.W., Ardmore, OK 73401, in Naomi Mitchell’s name.
