Bud graduated from Norristown High School Class of 1943. Then in 1943 as WWII was raging; he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Iwo Jima and was there when the famous image of the American flag was raised. For his honorable service as a combat veteran, he was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon w/ 1 star, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal and a Bronze Star. He was employed as a pipe fitter and plumber by Phillip Carey in Plymouth Meeting and later Penwalt in King of Prussia. He loved all things to do with sports and was a highly regarded baseball coach for the Bridgeport Little League. In summary, he saw his life's work come full circle through his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and was very much an active part of their lives.
Beside his wife, Dorothy; Tom is survived by a son, Ted S. (Kathy) of E. Greenville; 2 daughters, Darlene Weaver (Joe) of Gainesville, GA; and Cindy Carron (Alex "Butch") of Trooper; 3 sisters, Mary Soppick, Eleanor Shainline, and Agnes Crist; 8 grandchildren, Melissa,Todd, Nadeen, Sean, David, TJ, Nick and Melanie; 6 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brianna, Alina, Cole, Owen and Caeley; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by: a son, Thomas J. Hurley Jr.; a brother, William; and a sister, Margaret Wood.
Relatives and friends may pay respects on Tuesday evening, May 8, from 6-8 p.m. or on Wednesday morning, May 9, from 8:30-9:45 a.m. at the William A. Moore Funeral Home, 708 Fayette St., Conshohocken. A funeral mass will commence at 10:30 a.m. in Mother of Divine Providence Church, Allendale Rd., King of Prussia. Interment, St. Augustine Cemetery in King of Prussia.
